04 Dec The Problem with Meghan from The Bachelor

‘Lets play a game called, “How stupid can we make Newfoundlander’s look?”‘

I am pretty sure that is what the producers of The Bachelor Canada said to themselves when they decided to choose Meghan as a bachelorette on this season. Now, I am a Newfoundlander so I am allowed to say everything that I am about to say, but keep in mind that if anyone else was to judge her based on her accent/actions, it would be a different story.

My first issue with the presentation of Meghan on this season is her introductory video, in which they have traditional Newfoundland music playing in the background. None of the other girls have music from their home’s playing behind them, so it is apparent that this was used as a tactic to set Meghan apart from the others. However, it did not set her apart in a positive light. This video turned Newfoundland music into a joke, as it was used as a precursor to her embarrassing introduction, which I will talk about next.

The accent. That is all I have to say here. Meghan has a very apparent Newfoundland accent, and that is great. I love our accent, and it reminds me of home every time I hear it. However, Meghan’s accent coupled with her annoying, pitch-y voice that always sounds like its asking a question? That is not something that I want to hear. This is the first Newfie girl in the history of this show, and they made us look like idiots.

I could go on and on about my issues with this girl, but I don’t have time for that. I will leave you with this, Meghan is not an accurate representation of a Newfoundland woman, and  I am disappointed in The Bachelor for turning her, and every other Newfoundlander, into a joke.
