17 Oct Fashion Sucks

Here’s the thing: The fashion industry sucks.

It is insane, it is fast-paced, and intense, and changing, and hard. There is constant criticism and nobody can ever agree on anything. Women judge women, women judge men, men judge women, men judge men, and everybody judges everybody. I secretly love all this judgment, just not when it applies to me.

It is also amazing, I love the fact that there is always something to learn, and I love that I can never know everything. I love that I can wear what I want and that it doesn’t matter if everyone likes it because taste is subjective.

What I don’t like is the fact that so many people can;t just respect another person’s choices and leave it at that. I say people and not individuals because someone who is truly a unique individual would not have the audacity to pass judgment on someone else.

Perhaps this is just me reaching my breaking point. Growing up in a small town, I was always able to tone everything down and fit into the small mold that was made for me. Moving to Toronto has turned me into an entirely new person, a person who gets mad, and yells, and wears what she wants, and has an opinion, and it has become about so much more than just fashion.

But that’s how it started, and that is what it comes back to. Whether it is somebody at my part-time job commenting on the fact that I shouldn’t wear a sheer top and a bralette, or somebody from my hometown saying that I am a “poser” for dressing like a girl, goth, tomboy, and hipster all in the same week.

Guess what, I do whatever the f*ck I want, and I am completely entitled to that! Enjoy your daily uniform or a crop top, high waisted skinny jeans, and knit cardigan. 🙂
