04 Dec A Blakeley Family Tradition

Today I thought I would share with you one of my families biggest traditions on my dads side. The holidays are a very special time for my family. My grandfather for over 40 years has been making these huge Christmas displays.. yes making, he goes out and buys the wood, paint, tools, and motors to make these things work in order to spread his joy and happiness in Santa clause and Christmas with everyone else in his neighbourhood.

My grandfather is actually know as Santa Clause in his neighbourhood. On Christmas Eve he dresses up as Santa Clause, fills his sack up with toys and goes around to the houses and gives their kids a gift and they get to take a picture with him. The joy this brings my grandfather is honestly inspiring.

Every year my grandfather gets inspiration from somewhere, I don’t even know where but he gets it and decides to create a new display, that starts on his lawn and then the next year moves. There are only two houses on his street that always get the same display because their lawns are so big it’s the only place we can put the two display. All the other houses get different displays. We set them up on the last weekend of November and they stay up until the end of January.

He has made it on the news a few times for these beautiful displays but these past two years, back to back he has been asked by City News to do an interview with them about his creations and why he does them. He gets so happy and emotional in these interviews because his passion is just so strong for these displays and the Christmas season. Here is the link for his 2017 City News Interview.
