04 Dec A Poem for Shrek

Big, green, with anger in his heart

why is he like this,

where did it start?

Ogre’s, they say, are impossible to love,

but with Fiona, his heart was able to rise above.

His parents were honest, ogres belong on their own

so by the age of seven, he was completely alone.

He didn’t really mind, he found a swamp by a boulder,

but every now and then, he dreaded getting older.

“I don’t want someone to love, I am happy by myself”

but deep down he knew, denying it wouldn’t help.

So when the opportunity came, to travel abroad,

he didn’t object, although he didn’t love his squad.

He was stuck with a donkey, a talkative fellow,

he never shut up, he needed to be more mellow.

When they reached the castle, he pushed away his fear,

this was his destiny, his love would soon appear.

Though everyone thought that he was angry and cold,

nobody expected the bravery they would behold.

Quick on his feet, on the lookout for his prey,

there he found a dragon, which he went on to slay.

The princess was saved, and to her surprise,

this ogre would become her love, rather than her demise.

His broad shoulders and defined jawline

worked with his green coloring – he was mighty fine.

She blew up some birds, and made them some eggs

He watched as she kicked Robin hood with her legs.

He fell in love with her, but as the sun went down,

he knew she was not meant for him, but for the crown.

Off to Lord Farquad, he sent her with the dawn,

but soon he realized that was not where she belonged.

He mounted a dragon, and interrupted their vows,

he was her beloved, and Farquad could not arouse.

So now you have it,

our story is true, you can check.

Never forget the tale of donkey,

Fiona, and Shrek.
