11 Dec Hometowns Will Always Have Your Heart
It was just two weeks ago that I lost my childhood best friend. He took his own life while at school in Oshawa. We had lost touch in high school and had only talked a few times since we graduated public school. I regret that it took this accident for me to realize how special he was to me. As much as we can feel guilt and pain, there is time to grieve and there is time to have hope that he is in peace. You cannot let the guilt overtake you. Life is an endless road trip, and I’m sure we all know that. There is no stopping, no slowing down. There is no going backward and no way of going forward. And though it is inevitable that our lives are going to take us to new places, new homes, new relationships, new friends, etc. nothing is ever for certain. I have recently realized how important it is to cherish your childhood friends and how each person raised you. When you have grown up and lost touch, never forget that each person in your life is a different piece of you. No matter where you end up in life, your hometown will always have a special place in your heart. You may not realize it, but there will always be something that brings you back. It may be a positive thing that brings you back, and it could be a tragic accident. Life has no way of telling you what is coming, so expect it as no surprise. Life really is shorter than we all think, and we have no idea when it can be taken from us. Live everyday with gratitude, hope and love. Everyone has a background story and you may just never know what theirs might be.
