11 Dec My Favorite Trip

There aren’t many trips that I haven’t enjoyed. They all have a story in their own way, each one a little bit different than the next. It was July of 2016 when my best friend and I went to Malaysia and Indonesia. I worked almost full time while in school to save enough money to go and my parents helped me out a lot. I was beyond excited as I had never traveled to Asia before. It all started out when I had to pick my “Dream Destination” in my Travel and Tourism class one year prior. We had no budget, and we had to plan the full trip from start to finish. It was that class that made me realize my interest in Bali, and I knew that I had to go there. It was then that I started planning the trip with my best friend, Isabel, who was also in the class. Her Dad is an engineer working in Malaysia, so he offered to fly us to Kuala Lumpur in business class (pretty nice for a 20 hour plane trip) under his company card. And that was it! We booked our flight from Kuala Lumpur to Denpasar, Bali. We were to stay with Isabel’s dad for five days before leaving for 2 weeks in Indonesia including Bali, Lombok and the Gili Islands. Because we were younger and our parents weren’t completely confident in us travelling alone, we booked a spot with a G Adventures travel group.

It was on that trip that I met the best people from so many different places including Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Australia, and England. I learned that I should always travel with a backpack to a destination such as this. Yes, we were the only ones that brought suitcases. Asia is one of the best destinations because it is filled with adventure travel, but also lots of interesting history. Don’t forget it’s warm all year ‘round. I think that Europe is beautiful and obviously a very different type of travel, but it doesn’t have the adventure that Asia does. We went surfing, snorkeling, biking, white water rafting and we even climbed a volcano. It’s a place full of action and adventure, though you never worry about breaking the bank.
