Broke Girl Beauty Hacks!
By: Emily Blair
Tired of being a broke gal but still wanna look good? As a full time fashion student and part time server, living in an expensive city can leave my wallet pretty empty.
Here are my all my favorite beauty hacks that save you a few bucks and keep you feeling your best for all you fellow broke girls out there.
Baby powder.
Baby powder is my life saver. I use it at least three times a week as dry shampoo. With hair that gets greasy very easily and a busy schedule, all I need to do sprinkle a LITTLE bit on to my greasy roots, brush it out and one minute later I’m good to go!
Disclaimer: Baby powder works best for blondes- light brown hair, if you have dark hair I recommend sticking to regular dry shampoo as the white in the baby powder will be visible on your roots.
Mascara Testing Wands.
If you’re like me, than eyebrows are INCREDIBLY important to you.
You know those mascara wand testers at makeup stores? Bring them home!! They make great eyebrow/eyelash brushes for a little grooming on the go or when applying makeup. You’ll never have to pay for an eyebrow brush again. Sorry Sephora, We’re coming for you.
Coconut oil.
Coconut oil is amazing.
You can cook with it and it is also super hydrating for your hair and skin.
I use it for face cream, hair serum, and sometimes cooking as well.
Big jars typically go for $15 a jar but it’s totally worth the price. This investment product will last you a very long time. Make sure to get ORGANIC coconut oil as the non-organic is bleached losing many of its natural health properties.
Vaseline.
I friggin love Vaseline.
I use it for lip balm.
It’s a cheap makeup remover or a great lifesaver when you forgot yours while traveling.
I’ve used it for eyebrow gel believe it or not. After using my eyebrow pencil i’ll apply a small amount to my brows with my finger following by brushing them to perfection with my trusty mascara wand!
Mix with eyeshadow for a glossy lid or soften a dry lipstick.
No makeup? No problem. Sometimes on a no makeup day I like to use Vaseline as a sort of highlighter for a little extra pop. I’ll put a little on my cheek bones and under my eyebrows for a little extra glow.
Also its great for a dry chapped nose when recovering from a cold.
A big tub will be about $4.50 or grab some mini to-go tubs for your makeup bag, car, purse and wherever else!
Baking soda
Baking soda makes a great cheap teeth whitener. If you don’t already have a box hanging around your house one will run you about $4. After brushing your teeth, dip your wet toothbrush in to the power and brush for about a minute. The results are great and not to mention a more natural alternative to store bought teeth whiteners.
