On an astrological birth chart, the planets exist in relationship to the signs. The sign a  planet occupies describes how that particular energy permeates your personality and influence your life. If you have eight out of the ten planets in Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), then you probably have an abundant energy and a fierce temper, and tend to initiate action. If you have mostly Air planets (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra),your approach to life come from a mental standpoint – rationalizing and thinking before acting.

Mercury The Messenger Planet

Mercury is the messenger; it speaks in terms of logic and reasoning. Mercury represents how we think and how we communicate those thoughts. The sign Mercury describes how you express your mental habits and how you gather information. This sign also shows how you study and how you communicate you ideas in life.

For example, my Mercury is in Aquarius. This apparently means my intellect is detached from emotion and endlessly inventive. My mental interests tend to be progressive, unusual, and often eccentric. I exhibit interest in the occult and science. Not necessarily loud or flamboyant, but I often have a quiet way of stirring others up. Delights in exposing what I deem biases in others’ way of thinking. Very quick to contradict others, and to offer a different perspective, I enjoy intellectual debates. Amazing powers of observation, and a quirky way of looking at the world. Humorous and interesting. Love practical jokes and raising eyebrows.
