17 Mar Gayley’s

The cafe is small, independent, and family run. They appreciate the uniqueness of our customers. They are the type of people who know all our regulars; some of them have come almost every day for over fifteen years. They take pride in making notes to the chef that are written as “Steak for Mike” or “Terry’s breakfast” because the chef already knows exactly what Mike and Terry want. This is all about the strong bond they have built with their guests.

Having a meal with them is said to be like eating at home. They serve traditional diner food: all day breakfasts, soups, sandwiches and daily specials, as well as several new healthy options, like buckwheat and kale salad. Since they opened 17 years ago, they have become popular from dishes, like pancakes and crepes, apple compote, hollandaise sauce, hummus and salsa have been made from scratch, with unprocessed, uncomplicated, whole ingredients.

They love food, they love to make and serve food, and most of all they love when people eat and enjoy their food. Gayley’s Cafe is a quiet, sunny, beer-serving breakfast place on Dundas West. An interesting fact about them is that they proudly display and feature local art work on their walls. They also host community dance and music events. They take part in Dundas Fest events by sponsoring a dance zone in front of their cafe.

It’s apparently the place to go when you’re hung over and want to wait in line for an hour, but on the day we went there was no line and the food was ok. I can see why people may come for the atmosphere and scenery, but don’t see much more value then that.
