23 Mar Morning Makeup Routine

I often get asked: “Do you do your makeup yourself?”, “Do you do it like that every day?”, “How do you get your wings so even?”, “How long does it take you?”. The answer is yes and practice makes perfect, though wings are never perfectly even. As for timing, I’ve never actually timed it. But for those interested, here is an exclusive walk-through of my everyday makeup routine.

Step 1

Cover face in NYX ‘Stay Matte But Not Flat’ liquid foundation (SMF07 Warm Beige) using oval makeup sponge. I recently switched to this foundation because I love the NYX brand and the price is much lower than the one I was using previously. I have been very satisfied with the product – it offers full coverage with an oil-free formula and a matte finish.

Step 2

Apply Covergirl ‘cg smoothers’ concealer (730 Neutralizer) under eyes to hide dark circles plus onto any blemishes. This product blends well to brighten the eyes and hide skin imperfections.

Step 3

Use NYX Professional Makeup Highlight & Contour Pro Palette to sculpt my face. I use ‘Cream’ for the light parts of my face (centre of forehead, upper cheeks, centre of chin) and ‘Tan’ to contour (edge of forehead, sides of nose, cheekbones).

Step 4

Apply Maybelline New York Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter by Face Studio (300 Deep Gold) to highlight bridge of nose and upper cheekbones. Revisit the NYX Contour Palette and gently dust ‘Ice Queen’ over top for an even brighter glow.

Step 5

Use Maybelline New York Brow Drama Pro Palette (260 Deep Brown) to shape and fill eyebrows, plus highlight the bottom of them (I also use this as eyeshadow).

Step 6

Use any black eyeshadow to create a diagonal line from the corner of the eye – shade inward from the crease upward.

Step 7

This is where the magic happens – and where the most time is spent. The only liquid eyeliner I have ever used is this one by NYC (887 Black). The brush applies the liquid well, it goes on matte, the price is great and it lasts even me a long time. I like to start my wing by drawing a diagonal line from the outer corner of my eye outward. I then outline my lashes, then connect the two lines from my eyelid to a sharp point.

Step 8

Lastly, adhere Ardell’s Glamour lashes (105 Black) to your face with the DUO Striplash Adhesive (dark tone). I used to use the Double Up lashes but they have become hard to come by, however these are just as good. I prefer the dark tone lash glue because it blends with the lashes and eyeliner so there’s no weird white goo left over.

Add any mascara to your lower lashes and you’re favourite lipstick and you’re done!
