04 Dec Why The Grinch is the Best Movie Ever Made
Once in a snowflake, like the one on your sleeve, there happened a story you must see to believe….
*We open on a snowflake, floating through the air. Zoom in closer and you can see the town of Whoville, we hear Christmas music playing.*
The opening scene to this movie is one of my favorite scenes in cinematic history. There is something about it that evokes a feeling of wonder, excitement, and familiarity within me, and I always feel at ease when I put this movie on.
For most, this is considered a Christmas film, but I will watch it at anytime of year because of it’s undeniable ability to calm me down. There is something about Jim Carrey’s version of the Grinch that stands out to me when compared to the cartoon character. His facial expressions and tone of voice work wonders to make this movie accessible to all ages, as opposed to just children. Even today, as I watch the film for the 900th time, I find myself laughing at all of the hidden sarcastic remarks and semi-dirty jokes.
Another think I love about this movie is the incredible work done by the wardrobe and hair department. The more I watch, the more I notice the time and effort that was put in to creating an entire world within this snowflake. From the cups of eggnog resting on top of the heads of Cindy Lou Who, and her entire family, to the “ABC” spelled out in Martha May Whovier’s hair as a young girl. The level of detail is impeccable, and it really makes this movie stand out.
Overall, I just really support this movie and I hope that it remains a holiday classic for years to come. Whether people watch it in admiration, or jest, there is no denying it’s quality.
