Pantone just announced 18-3838 Ultra Violet as pantone colour of the year, 2018.
In a press release revealing the selection, the institute calls Ultra Violet a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade. It communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points the way to the future.”
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute said “The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”
Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director said, “Intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
The selection draws upon influences from pop culture like Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie, who both favoured purple hues, Pantone said in the announcement. It also takes inspiration from nature.
The Pantone Color Institute is a consulting service within Pantone that forecasts global colour trends and advises companies on colour in brand identity and product development, for the application and integration of colour as a strategic asset.
The impact of the Pantone color of the year in the design world is serious. Trends are driven by the pantone colours and so are designers and brands inspiration. Colours have always been a source of inspiration, a form of expression, communication and influence.
The colour will be popular in the interior design world, event setups such as wedding decor and furniture and fashion of course! This colour is also complimentary to green which was the pantone colour of the year 2017. It will also bring about a refreshing change to the beauty industry especially after the purple hair colour trend.
There are a lot of products in this shade that is available in the market place. It will look great on a couch, a wall or even lips. This is a bold colour and it is all about fighting the power, being bold and strong and truly original. That is the mood for the coming year!
