11 Dec Top 3 Favourite Trips I’ve Taken
I have been lucky enough to be one of those people who travels every single year, sometimes even more than once a year. Ever since I was seven years old, my family has gone on trips at the end of summer. It started with road trips down to Myrtle Beach or Ocean City which were so a dream for my preteen self who loved building sand castles. As I got older we started doing trips to the Caribbean or Mexico and eventually to the United Kingdom. In this blog post, I want to tell you guys about my three favourite trips I’ve ever been on, and why they mean so much to me.
1. Northern Ireland & England
This was the summer of 2012, I had just finished grade nine and my sister was getting ready to move to Kingston for university. My father is from Northern Ireland so we decided we would fly into Dublin, drive up the coast and spend some time there before flying to London, England. The reason this trip holds such good memories is because it was the first time we had gone to visit my fathers birth place. We actually went into his old neighbourhood and saw the house he grew up in and even saw some childhood neighbours who still lived in the area of Belfast and also visited my dad’s cousins who he hadn’t seen in many years. It was just a truly special trip to see how happy my dad was to be able to show us where he grew up. After a week or so in Northern Ireland, we flew to London and I absolutely love London. Being in Oxford Circus is something so magical I couldn’t even explain what it is about being there that makes me so happy. We’ve gone back to London every other summer since that trip and I have plans to one day move there.
2. Greece
One of my best friends is Greek, and her mother has a home in a small town called Nafpaktos which is across the bridge from Patras, about a three hour drive from Athens. Summer after grade 11, we decided we were going to spend a month in Greece together. We went for the month of June, (longest flight I’ve ever been on it was torture), and the entire month was an endless party to be completely honest. Every day we would go to the beach where the water was crystal clear and our friend owned a beach side restaurant, and we would go out with friends we had met every night. The cycle never ended for an entire month. I was 16 at the time and it was the trip of a lifetime and hopefully I can go back with her one summer.
3. Jamaica
This trip was in the middle of summer after my first year of university. My cousin was getting married at this beautiful all inclusive resort, with approximately 60 people in attendance. The weather was blistering hot for the entire week, and never once rained. All of the people who were there for the wedding were young at heart despite whatever their real age was. Again, this week was essentially non stop drinking and socializing till all hours of the night, only to wake up and do it all over again. Personally I would never go back to Jamaica simply because of a few bad experiences with the security guards on the resort, but would definitely do another trip with the same people again. Jamaica’s was by far the most fun family trip I have ever been on.
