Located in the heart of the Exchange, chef Mandel Hitzer has created the restaurant of his dreams. Full of friends, laughter and music, deer + almond serves tapas-style dishes, perfect for sharing in a relaxed and comfy environment deer + almond is all about great food, fun times and building a strong community in Winnipeg’s art scene, Exchange District.
Every year, chef Hitzer plans a known pop up concept on the Assiniboine river, Raw almond. Hitzer and his team have been nominated by several food and travel journals as one of the top restaurants in Canada. In 2013 with only a dream, a chef and a designer set to create a temporary tasting room on the frozen river during the coldest months Winnipeg has to offer.
Seems crazy? It was. With dedication and perseverance Hitzer and his team pushed through. Now 6 years and counting. RAW:almond is fine dining on the frozen rivers of Winnipeg. World class chefs gather to create a pop-up restaurant experience like no other.
The event has grown in size and scope – more elaborate designs, more guest chefs. It has also grown to other locations, Polar Bear Capital of the world Churchill and now Tokyo at a mystery location. Without inspired spaces the food can be anywhere, without inspired food the space is nowhere.
