22 Mar Spring Trend 2018: Millennial Pink
Ever heard of the color “Millennial Pink”? If you haven’t, you can be sure you’ve at least seen it. Some call it Scandi Pink. Others refer to it as Tumblr Pink. Pink was never one of my favourite colours but it has been growing on me. I wore full millennial pink to one of the Toronto Fashion week shows this years and everyone loved my outfit. I now think i have found my newest favourite colour 🙂
The name millennial pink was coined to describe a muted shade of the colour – somewhere between beige and blush. The trend can be easily traced back to 2016, when the more warm-hued Rose Quartz was one of Pantone’s two colours of the year. The colour company later listed Pale Dogwood, an even closer match, on its trend forecast for spring 2017.
The average modern woman over the age of 12 has eschewed pink for decades and wouldn’t dare to be seen in. The colour was more marketing for little girls. After all, if you want to be taken seriously, it’s not exactly the first shade on the color wheel that jumps to mind. Which is exactly why the resurrection of millennial pink is actually kind of a big deal.
The dusky shade represents a smart, sly kind of feminine mystique―pretty, but with better things to do. It’s been embraced and analyzed by top fashion icon and celebrities like Rihanna. The best thing about this colour is that is looks great on every skin tone. GQ named Millennial pink ‘spring’s most popular colour, The Guardian called it ‘the colour of now’. Pantone may have declared “Ultra Violet” the official color of 2018, but I am banking on the Millennial pink to takeover instead.
